Protest at RU over kidnapping of student

Rajshahi, Nov 17 (Just News): Students of Rajshahi University are demonstrating at campus over a kidnapping of a residential female student by a man this morning.

Female students were staging a sit-in near the residence of Vice Chancellor, throwing an ultimatum to the authorities and demanding to bring her back in two hours.

Umme Shahi Ammana Shova, a fourth year student of Bangla and a resident of Taposhi Rabeya Hall, was picked up into a microbus this morning from campus.

Proctor Professor Md Lutfor Rahman acknowledged the fact. He said, the university authorities have informed the police in this regard.

The man who picked her up was one Sohel Rana, the man she was married to last year.

However, according to her friends, they divorced in September this year.

Witness said, Shova was walking to an exam hall when her ex-husband came in a microbus and stopped in front of her barring her way around 8:30am.

After an altercation, Shohel forcefully picked up Shova in the microbus and left.

Amzad Hossain, father of the victim, filed an abduction case against Sohel Rana with Motihar Police Station this evening.

The students withdrew around dusk, declaring to resume tomorrow in front of the VC’s residence.
