Unblock 54 news sites immediately: journalists leaders to government

Dhaka, Dec 13 (Just News): Journalists on Wednesday gave 48 hours ultimatum to the ruling authority to unblock the 54 news portals including Just News BD. Tougher movement will be taken if the demand is not fulfill warned the journalist leaders.

Bangladesh Federal Journalist Association (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists gave the ultimatum from a protest rally at National Press Club in Dhaka.

BFUJ President Ruhul Amin Gazi said government’s motive behind the block of 54 news portals is a mystery. It (government) bothers nothing as there are no rules of law in the country, he added.

Gazi urged the government to unblock the portals immediately.

Journalists at the rally criticised the government’s decision of blocking the news portals without any issuing any notice.

A total of 54 news portals are blocked ahead of the upcoming parliamentary election to manipulate the election process, said the journalist leaders. They asked the government to unblock and open the all media which was closed during its tenure.

BFUJ General Secretary M Abdullah, journalist leader Kader Gani Chowdhury, DUJ general secretary Md Shahidul Islam, Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh president Abu Saleh Akan, DUJ public welfare secretary Alamgir Hossain, journalist DM Omar, Just News BD senior sub-editor Md Golam Yusuf Sagar, correspondent Monirul Islam Farazi, Sheershanews24 editor Ekramul Haque, chief reporter Saiful Islam, Abul Kalam Manik, Nurul Amin Rukon, Mudabber Hossain and Jasim Mehdi, among others, were present at the rally.

Though the ruling authority blocked the Just News for the third time but the portal is continuing its regular operation. Readers of the country are facing problem for the block but readers across the globe getting access without any problem.
