Murder accused killed in ‘gunfight’

Dhaka, Feb 18 (Just News): A murder accused, who was arrested while escaping after shot a businessman in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon, was killed in a reported gunfight with police.

The deceased is Nurul Islam Nuru, in his thirties. The Badda police sub-inspector (SI) Shamsul Haque said Nuru was taken to t Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s Emergency Unit at about 5:00am on Sunday, where doctors declared him dead. He said the body was kept at the morgue for autopsy.

SI said local people caught Nuru read handed carrying arms while he was escaping after shooting businessman Abul Bashar Badsha in Satalku area of Merul Badda on Saturday afternoon and handed over him to police. Badsha used to run clothe business at Mouchak Market in Dhaka.

Nuru was also one of the accused in Siddique Hossain Munshi’s murder case. Siddique Hossain Munshi, in his fifties, was the owner of SM Munshi Overseas, a manpower recruiting agency in Banani. Moreover, Nuru was wanted in several cases including murder, extortion.

Police said after arrest, a team of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch went to raid Satarkul area along with Nuru on Saturday night. The members of Nuru’s gang tried to snatch him from police and opened fire to them. Police also fired back which triggered a gunfight and left Nuru bullet-hit. Later, police took him to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
