48hr ultimatum to rescue missing Rangpur PP

Rangpur, Apr 1 (Just News): Demonstrators today issued a 48-hour ultimatum to rescue a public prosecutor in Rangpur, who has been missing for two days.

The announcement was made at a human chain in front of Rangpur Press Club at 10:30am Sunday.

Rangpur unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, Bangladesh Hindu, Buddhist, Christian Okya Parishad, Sammilito Sangskritik Jote, and Group Theatre Federation jointly organised the programme.

Also, lawyers in Rangpur observed a daylong strike today. They formed a human chain in front of Rangpur Deputy Commissioner’s office at noon.

Rathish Chandra Bhowmik, 55, a public prosecutor who was well known for his involvement in different organisations, has been missing since Friday. He was last seen taking off on the back seat of a motorcycle.

Babul Mia, officer-in-charge of Rangpur Police station, said they trying hard to detect him. So far, there has been no leads to the trace of his whereabouts.

Shushanta Bhowmik, his younger brother and a journalist in Rangpur filed a general diary with Rangpur Sadar police station on Saturday.

Protests were held sporadically across the Rangpur city on Saturday after the news of missing started spreading in the city. Roads at different places were blocked; human chain and protest procession was brought out.
