Gayeshwar freed on bail

Dhaka, Apr 3 (Just News): Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy was released from jail on bail on Tuesday, over three months after his arrest.

He walked out of the Keraniganj Central Jail around 7:00pm after the bail order in four cases reached the jail authorities, BNP central leader and Gayeshwar's daughter-in-law Nipun Roy said.

She said the BNP leader recently got bail from the High Court in four cases -- two with Shahbagh, one each with Ramna and Chawkbazar police stations -- paving the way for his release.

From the jail gate, Nipun said Gayeshwar went to United Hospital in the capital to visit ailing BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Earlier on 30 Jan, detectives arrested Gayeshwar near Police Plaza Concord Shopping Mall in the city's Gulshan area ahead of the lower court's verdict delivered on 8 February in a graft case of party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

He was later shown arrested in the four political violence cases.
