Arm losing student Rajib’s condition unchanged

Dhaka, Apr 6 (Just News): The condition of Titumir College student Rajib Hossain, who lost his arm being trapped between two competing buses in the capital’s Banglamotor on Tuesday, remained unchanged on Friday.

But the only good news was that he did not need life support, for which the doctors of Dhaka Medical College Hospital were preparing on Thursday.

‘His head injury is still worrying. There was internal bleeding in the head,’ DMCH orthopedic head Shamsuzzaman told New Age on Friday afternoon.

Doctors on Thursday said that Rajib’s condition was not out of danger and could deteriorate anytime.

His injury in the right arm is curing, said Shamsuzzaman, who is heading a medical team formed to treat Rajib.

Rajib could take his foods on Friday morning. He would take foods from now, said Shamsuzzaman.

Rajib, a third year bachelor student, is now undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of the hospital.

He has lost his parents earlier and now he is the eldest member of the family. He has two younger siblings to look after, Rajib’s relatives said.

His maternal uncle Helal Uddin said on Friday afternoon that Rajib was not still responding like a person with full sense.

‘We urge the government to take him to abroad for better treatment,’ he said.

On Tuesday, Rajib was standing on the rear gate of a packed BRTC double-decker on his way to college when a Sajan Paribahan bus was overtaking it and in the friction, his right hand was severed from the wrist while the upper arm also sustained serious injuries exposing the bones.

He was rushed to Shamorita Hospital from where he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, a High Court bench asked Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation chairman and the owner of Swajan Paribahan to explain why they would not be asked to pay Tk 1 crore in compensations to Rajib.

The court also asked BRTC and Swajan Paribahan owner to bear Rajib’s treatment cost.

The drivers of the competing buses – Wahid, 35, of BRTC bus and Khorshed, 50, of Swajan Paribahan – were now in police remand since Thursday for interrogation over the incident.
