Road crashes claim 19 lives in 2 days

Dhaka, Jun 3 (Just News): Nineteen people have been killed and many others injured in separate road accidents across the country in less than two days.

In Sirajganj, at least three people were killed and three others injured following a head-on a collision between a truck and covered van on Dhaka-Bogura highway in Dadpur area of Raiganj upazila on Sunday morning.

The deceased are Rashidul Islam, 24, Abdur Rahman, 32, Alamin Hossain, 22, hailing from Sariakandi upazila in Bogura district.

Abdul Kader Zilani, officer-in-charge of Hati Kumrul highway police station, said the accident occurred when the Bogura-bound tin-laden truck collided head-on with the covered van around 7:15am, leaving the trio dead on the spot and three injured.

After the collision, the two vehicles overturned into a roadside ditch.

On information, police and fire fighters recovered the bodies after one and half of frantic efforts.

Injured Minhaj, 22, Md Sohel, 20 and Sagor Ali were admitted at Raiganj upazila health complex, said the OC.

The accident halted vehicular movement on the highway for about two hours.

Three workers were killed and six others injured as a truck plunged into a roadside ditch in Khelsi area of Shariatpur sadar upazila on Saturday night.

The deceased are Md Rahmat Hossain, 40, Naim Hossain, 25, and Idris, 60, from Chetua area in Ashasuni upazila of Satkhira district.

The injured workers said that they had come to Shariatpur from Satkhira on 24 April for cultivating paddy.

The paddy-laden truck carrying 12 workers plunged into a roadside ditch after its driver lost control over the wheels, leaving three dead on the spot around 10:30am, said Shariatpur fire service and civil defence deputy assistant director Niaz Mohammad.

The injured were admitted at Shariatpur Sadar Hospital, he added.

Thirteen people were killed and many others injured in separate road accidents across the country on Saturday, reports UNB.

In Faridpur, three students were killed in two separate road accidents on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Madhukhali upazila.

Two students---Limon, 18 of Mesordia village and Sabbir, 17, of Baliakandi upazila in Rajbari district---were killed after a truck hit the motorcycle carrying them around 12:00pm.

In another incident, class-IX student Quader Molla, 14, son of Ohidul Molla of Nishchintopur village in the same upazila was crushed under a passenger bus around 4:30pm while he was cross the road in Gariadah area.

In Sirajganj, four people were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a covered van in Saidabad area of the sadar upazila.

A Gaibandha-bound ‘Shyamali Paribahan bus’ collided with a covered van on Banghabandhu Bridge West road, leaving three people dead on the spot and 24 others injured, said Banghabandhu Bridge West police station officer-in-charge Syed Shaheed Alam.

The injured were rushed to Sirajganj 250-bed hospital where one of the injured died.

The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.

In Nilphamari, two people were killed and two others injured after a bus hit an auto-rickshaw in Dhoyera bus stand area of Jaldhaka upazila.

Deceased Rahim, 32, and Alam, 35 were passengers of the auto-rickshaw, said Jaldhaka police station officer-in-charge Sohrab Hossain.

The accident took place around 3:00am when a ‘Josheda Paribahan’ bus dashed the auto-rickshaw, leaving the two dead on the spot and two others injured, he said.

In Rajshahi, a day labourer was killed after being hit by a truck on Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj highway in Bypass Rail gate area of Godagari upazila in the morning.

The deceased is Somoy Lalu, 60, son of one late Belal Uddin.

Godagari police station officer-in-charge Jahangir Alam said the truck hit Somoy around 6:00am while he was crossing the road, leaving him dead on the spot.

In Lalmonirhat, trader Abdul Awal, 58, lost his life as a truck ran over him at medical more in Aditmari upazila headquarters around 4:30pm.

In Moulavibazar, NGO worker Uttam Vattacharja Pinku, 50, was crushed under a bus on Kamalganj-Moulavibazar road at Votermil area in Kamalganj upazila around 10:00am.

In Jashore, a truck ran over cyclist Abdul Wahab, 50, son of late Md Ali of Jhikargachhi, after he fell off the cycle on the road, leaving him dead on the spot.
