Dhaka, July 5 (Just News): Rajshahi Medical Collage Hospital authorities on Wednesday discharged Toriqul Islam, Rajshahi University unit quota reform protesters’ leader, who was undergoing treatment at word 31 of the hospital with two bones of his right leg fractured, eight stitches on his head and bruises all over the body.

At least fifteen BCL leaders and activists indiscriminately beat up Toriqul Islam, masters’ student of RU Islamic studies department, with hammer, iron rod, machete, and sticks on Monday while he along with other quota protesters were heading toward the campus with national flags procession around 4:00pm.

Toriqul’s sister told New Age that the doctor told them on Wednesday that they would keep him under observation for two weeks and then would do a full plastered surgery.

However, Subrota Kumar Pramanik, a physician at the hospital, told them on Thursday noon that his brother condition was well and they were going to discharge him, she added.

‘My brother cannot move a little, he felt pain all over his body. His leg swollen than earlier’, she further added.

Later, Toriqul was discharged from the hospital at 4:00pm and they admitted him to a private hospital, Fatema added.

RMCH assistant professor Subroto Kumar Pramanik told New Age that they plastered his (Toriqul) broken leg and discharged him.

‘It is not possible for us to keep a single patient admitted here for long due to lack of space. More ten government hospitals will be needed if we keep patients like Toriqul admitted there’, he added.

‘I have asked him to meet after two weeks and then I will have his leg full plastered or surgery if needed’, he further added.

Meanwhile, fourteen teachers of Rajshahi University on Thursday at a press conference condemned and protested against the assaults and attacks on quota reform protesters and urged the concerned authorities to bring those BCL men who attacked upon quota reformists, under justice.

They also urged to the university authorities to form a probe body to investigate into those incidents, to ensure proper treatment of the injured students who were attacked by BCL men and to provide legal aid of the arrested students.

They also expressed their grave concerns over the inaction of the universities authorities, saying that a horror situation has been created at the universities across the country and such condition will disrupt the practices of open learning.

They also felt that, due to the aggressive attitudes of police and BCL men and the cases, the protesting general students have lost their freedom of speech which is encouraging the attackers.

Among others, associate professors Salim Reza Newton of mass communication and journalism department, Abdullah Al Mamun of English department, Susmita Chakrabarit of folklore department, Abdullah Al Mamun of MCJ department and Habib Jakaria of theatre department addressed at the press conference.
