Mother appeals to PM for Rashed’s release

Dhaka, July 11 (Just News): Quota reform movement leader Rashed Khan’s mother Saleha Begum on Wednesday late afternoon appealed to prime minister Sheikh Hasina to release her son and to ensure his safe life.

‘My son is not against the government, rather he is for the government. The prime minister is a mother and I appeal to a mother to get back my son,’ the poor mother wailed folding her hands in the chest.

‘I saw my handcuffed son yesterday [Tuesday] on the court premises. He told me to arrange a press conference to appeal to the prime minister to release him and not to torture him,’ she said at a press conference at Bangladesh Crime Reporters’ Association at Segunbagicha in Dhaka.

‘I cannot pass even a moment without hearing from my only son. Now I am walking door to door for his release,’ she said.

‘His movement was for a job. We hoped a lot from him. Now I don’t want his job. I want my son free and that he would get chance to complete his studies safely,’ she said.

‘I, as a mother, seek pardon to the prime minister,’ the poor mother said.
Rashed’s wife Rabeya Alo said that she feared that her husband’s physical condition was not good.

‘Quota movement was a logical movement. But now, it has been taking different turn which we don’t want to say,’ she said.

‘He is a general student…We demand withdrawal of his cases,’ Rabeya said.
Rashed’s younger sister Sonia Khatun also spoke.

On July 1, detectives arrested Rashed, joint convener of Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council, at Bhasantek in Dhaka after Al Nahian Khan Joy, law affairs secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League, filed a case under the Information and Communications Technology Act with Shahbagh police station.

He was remanded in police custody for five days by a Dhaka metropolitan magistrate’s court on July 2.

The quota movement leader was also shown arrested in another case filed for vandalising the house of Dhaka University vice-chancellor on April 8.

On July 7, a metropolitan magistrate’s court remanded Rashed in police custody for 10 days for interrogation in the two cases.
