Hasina takes U turn over quota: BNP

Dhaka, July 18 (Just News): Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday alleged that prime minister Sheikh Hasina took a U-turn about her previous stance over quota system in public service showing the High Court's verdict.

Addressing a human chain in front of National Press Club, Fakhrul claimed that it was not the verdict but observation of the High Court.

He said she (prime minister) had avoided court observation regarding maintaining caretaker government if necessary for a specific period in the verdict that scrapped 13th amendment to the Constitution.

Rather she (PM) incorporated provision of poll-time political government in the Constitution through 15 the amendment, he said.

Fakhrul said the prime minister was using court where she finds advantage.

The secretary general said the prime minister in the face of students' quota reform movement at parliament being angered stated that the quota system would be abolished.

Now she is speaking that the government could not go outside the high court verdict, Fakhrul said.

The secretary general categorically said BNP did not do politics over quota and the party chairperson Khaleda Zia's illness.

Sammilitya Peshajibi Parishad organised the human chain demanding unconditional release of imprisoned BNP chief Khaleda Zia and her proper medical treatment.
