Top Tigers reluctant to play Test: BCB boss

Dhaka, July 20 (Just News): The Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan on Friday said that some of the top Bangladeshi players have already lost their interest in playing Test cricket.

Nazmul came up with the observation in his home town when his attention was drawn regarding Bangladesh’s disappointing performance in the recent series against West Indies.

‘Now in our country, I see that some of our senior players are not interested in playing Test cricket. I mean to say like Sakib [al Hasan]. He doesn’t want to play Test cricket. Mustafiz [Mustafizur Rahman] also doesn’t want to play Test. He did not say it directly but he tries to avoid it. May be injury is one reason,’ said Nazmul.
‘Now what happened many of them don’t want to play Test because it is also very hard to play,’ he added.

Bangladesh team recently suffered a humiliating 2-0 Test series defeat against West Indies when they were bowled out for 43 runs in one innings and failed to reach 200-run in any of the innings they batted.

Both the Tests ended inside three days, highlighting Bangladesh’s poor state in Test cricket.

Nazmul also announced that BCB will not allow Mustafiz to participate in any of the franchise-based Twenty20 tournaments abroad for the next two years.

Mustafiz missed the three-match Twenty20 series against Afghanistan and Test series against West Indies after sustaining a toe injury while playing for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.

‘It is very disappointing that he often got injury while playing overseas franchised-based leagues and we missed the service of him. I think it is not acceptable for any circumstances,’ he said.

‘I don’t know what will happen but I have told the board not to allow him to play foreign leagues for next two years,’ added Nazmul.
