Another alleged RAB gunfight claims 3 lives

Chattogram, July 26 (Just News): Three people were killed in a reported gunfight with a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Khulshi area of Chattogram city early Thursday.

Two of the deceased are Jakir Hossain, 31, and Dalim Hossain, 32, from Morelganj upazila in Bagerhat district while the identity of the other one could not be known immediately, reports UNB.

Being tipped off that several people were carrying drugs in a private car, a team of RAB-7 conducted a drive in the area around 3:30am, said ASP Mimtanur Rahman of RAB-7 (Media).

When the force asked the private car to stop, the passengers opened fire on them forcing the RAB members to fire back in self-defence, he said.

At one stage, RAB men recovered the bodies along with 120 kilograms of hemp, two firearms and bullets from the spot, Mimtanur said.

With the latest deaths, at least 151 people were killed in reported gunfights with law enforcers while 37 bodies of suspected drug traders were recovered after reported gun battles between rival groups during the countrywide anti-narcotic drives since 15 May.
