Khaleda Zia greets countrymen on Eid from jail

Dhaka, Aug 22 (Just News): Relatives met jailed Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia at old Dhaka Central Jail at Nazimuddin Road in Dhaka Wednesday afternoon, during celebration of the Eid-ul-Azha, but they were allegedly not allowed to serve her homemade food.

BNP chairperson’s press wing member Shamsuddin Didar said that a 20 relatives of Khaleda Zia went to the jail gate at about 3:00pm but the jail authorities allowed only six – Khaleda Zia’s sister Selina Islam, brother-in-law Rafiqul Islam, brother Sayeed Eskandar’s widow Nasrin Sayeed, son Arafat Rahman Koko’s widow Sharmila Rahman Sithi, Arafat’s daughter Zafia Rahman and son Tarique Rahman’s sister-in-law Shahina Khan.

Didar said that the six entered the jail at about 3:45pm and came out after about one hour and a half.

‘Though they took homemade food for the BNP chairperson, the jail authorities did not allow them to take the food to her,’ he said.

Emerging from the jail, Selina told reporters that the BNP chairperson, through the relatives who met her, greeted the people of the country as well as the party leaders and activists on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Azha.
