259 people killed in accidents during Eid trips

Dhaka, Aug 31 (Just News): More than 250 people have died in at least 237 road accidents during the Eid-ul-Azha vacations, says Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Association (BPWA).

At least 960 others were also injured in the accidents that took place between August 16 and August 28.

Apart from them, 15 people were killed and seven others were injured in rail accidents during the same period. At the same time, four people were killed and 68 were injured in separate accidents on waterways. Eight others remain missing.

The BPWA released the figures at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity auditorium Friday morning. The report is based on news published by various media, regional newspapers, and online news portals.

According to its report, the number of accidents went down by 14.44% compared to Eid-ul-Fitr, thanks to the efforts of police, RAB, BRTA and various government agencies.

During last year’s Eid-ul-Azha, 274 people were killed and 848 were injured in 205 accidents, according to BPWA.
