Road crashes kill 8 in three districts

Dhaka, Sep 2 (Just News): At least eight people were killed and 63 others injured in separate road accidents in Bogra, Rangpur and Narayanganj districts today.

Among the deceased, three people were killed in two separate accidents in Bogra, four killed in Rangpur and one person in Narayanganj.

In Bogra, at least three people were killed and 39 injured in two separate road accidents in Sherpur upazila early today.

According to police and fire service sources, the first accident occurred when a Bogra-bound bus of Ena Paribahan collided head-on with Dhaka-bound bus of Chandni Paribahan in front of Sherpur Fire Service Station on Dhaka-Bogra highway around 12:00am, said Md Humayun Kabir, officer in-charge of Sherpur Police Station.

The deceased were identified as Md Mithu Akanda, 35, of Bogra and Sazzad Hossain, 22, of Gaibandha, reports our Bogra correspondent.

Mithu was the driver of the Chandni Paribahan bus, the OC said, adding that the 29 injured passengers from both the buses are now receiving treatment in Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.

In another accident, one was killed when a Bogra bound bus of SR travels hit a pickup-van at Dhunat intersection on Dhaka-Bogra highway around 1:00am, said OC Humayun Kabir.

The deceased was identified as Md Zahidul Haq, 38, hailing from Bogra and was also the bus supervisor.

The bodies have been handed over to the families of the victims, OC said.

In Rangpur, four people were killed and 33 injured in a head-on collision between two passenger buses today.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

The accident occurred when a passenger bus of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) collided head-on with another passenger bus headed to Rangpur at CO Bazar area of Rangpur municipality around 12:00pm, leaving four people dead on the spot, our Rangpur correspondent reports quoting witnesses.

The injured were taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital and condition of some of the passengers are critical, Additional Superintendent of Rangpur Police (Circle A) Saifur Rahman confirmed over phone.

In Narayanganj, a woman was killed today as a bus ran over her in Shiddhirganj upazila.

The deceased was identified as Minu Akter, 55, wife of Abdus Samad of North Kamargaon area in Munshiganj, reports our Narayanganj correspondent.

She was a resident of Shiddhirganj pool area where the accident took place around 7:00am.

A bus carrying workers of Export Processing Zone (EPZ) ran over Minu when she was crossing the road, leaving her dead on the spot, said Russel Ahmed, a sub-inspector (SI) of Shiddhirganj Police Station.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Narayanganj General Hospital for autopsy, the SI said.

Police are trying to nab the bus and its staff, he added.
