Sinha’s remarks clear govt jailed Khaleda Zia influencing judiciary at gunpoint: BNP

Dhaka, Sep 20 (Just News): Former chief justice Surendra Kumar Sinha’s comment had made it clear that the government sent Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to prison implicating her in false and baseless charges using the controlled judiciary, claimed BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Thursday.

Imprisoning Khaleda Zia was the government’s first mission, Rizvi said at a news conference at BNP office in Dhaka adding that the second mission of the government would be accomplished by sentencing BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman in August 21 grenade attack case October 10 verdict.

Rizvi said announcement of the verdict ahead of the upcoming general election was a part of the government’s plan.

He said the ruling party leaders and ministers were making various statements before delivering the verdict.

Some Awami League leaders had claimed that BNP would face serious problem after the verdict, Rizvi said, which indicated that they knew what was going to be.

Referring to news published in different local and international media, the senior joint secretary general said former chief justice SK Sinha in his book mentioned that he was forced to leave Bangladesh on the face of pressure.

Sinha, now staying in USA, in his book wrote that he had left the country in the face threatening and intimidation of an intelligence agency of Bangladesh and he was forced to resign while staying abroad keeping hostage his family, Rizvi said.

The BNP leader alleged that the controversial Digital Security Act was passed in parliament on Wednesday to gag the voice of the people and to suppress the media.

Rizvi urged people including people of mass media, freethinkers to stand against the ‘black law’.
