FF quota seekers continue demo at Shahbagh

Dhaka, Oct 4 (Just News): Freedom fighters’ quota seekers continue their daylong blockade at Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka demanding the government to reinstate 30 per cent reservation in civil service.

The protesters also called for a rally on October 6 to press home their demand.

Sheikh Atiqur Babu, president of “Muktijoddha Sangsad Sontan Command”, announced the rally this afternoon while staging their demonstration.

The rally will be held at Shahbagh, he said.

The demonstration of freedom fighters’ quota beneficiaries has begun to spread from Dhaka’s Shahbagh to other parts of the country since it mounted last evening.

Today, 50 students under the banner of “Muktijoddha Sangsad Sontan Command” took to the streets and blocked Shahbagh intersection at 7:00am.

Later, around 150 more students under the banners of Muktijoddha Paribar Kalyan Foundation, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sontan Sangsad, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Projonmo and Muktijoddha Paribar joined the demonstration.

The blockade has been continuing till last reported around 6:00pm.

The decision to scrap quota came following months of the mass upsurge of students seeking reforms to the quota provision, terming it discriminatory.

The student movement had rolled into violence time and again on the campuses of different universities across the country.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken a notice of the sprouting protests. She said: “If anyone wants quota now, there’ll have to be a movement for it. And if the movement turns out to be successful, we will think about it.”
