Oikya Prokriya agrees to move for Khaleda’s release

Dhaka, Oct 7 (Just News): The alliance of opposition parties under Dr Kamal Hossain, Jatiya Oikya Prokriya has agreed to move for the release of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

Leaders of parties within the alliance sat in a meeting this evening and decided to move to press for a five-point charter that includes Khaleda’s freedom.

“From now on, we will move collectively under the banner of Jatiya Oikya Prokriya on five-point demands including Khaleda Zia release,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said in a press briefing after the meeting.

The meeting was held at BNP Standing Committee Member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain’s residence in Gulshal-2 and began around 7:30pm, meeting sources said.

Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, its standing committee member Moudud Ahmed, and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President ASM Abdur Rab were among those who attended the meeting.

“We discussed the country’s latest political situation and our efforts to build a greater unity to force the government to hold the general election under a neutral polls-time administration,” Manna told The Daily Star after the meeting.
