Court frames charges against Jabal-e-Noor owners, staff

Dhaka, Oct 25 (Just News) : A Dhaka court has framed charges against six people – owners, drivers, and assistants of two Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan buses – in a case filed about the deaths of two college students on Airport Road on July 29.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court Judge KM Imrul Kayes read out the charges to four of the accused on Thursday. Two others are absconding.

All four accused have pleaded not guilty.

Additional Public Prosecutor Tapash Kumar Pal told that the trial will start on November 1.

Drivers Masum Billah and Zobair Hossain Sumon, helper Enayet Hossain, and owner Shahadat Hossain are now in jail.

The six accused are – Shahadat Hossain, owner of a Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan bus, its driver Masum Billah, and his assistant Enayet Hossain; owner of another Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan bus Jahangir Alam, its driver Zobair Sumon, and his assistant Asad.

Asad and Jahangir are still at-large. The court issued an arrest warrant for them.

First-year college students Diya Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib were killed when a bus ploughed through a group of students in front of the Kurmitola General Hospital on Airport Road in Dhaka.

The accident triggered widespread student protests demanding safer roads—and seeking justice for their fellow students.

Dia's father Jahangir Alam filed the case with the Cantonment Police Station.

Masum was driving the bus that ran over the students. He and bus owner Shahadat gave confessional statements before the court.
