March towards EC if polls not deferred: Alamgir

Dhaka, Nov 6 (Just News): BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has threatened to take to the streets if the government does not accept the Jatiya Oikya Front’s demand during the talks scheduled for Wednesday.

“A road march towards Rajshahi will be taken out on Nov 8 and a rally will be held there the next day if the government does not accept the demands during the dialogue,” he said on Tuesday while addressing the new coalition’s public rally in Dhaka.

The senior BNP leader announced a march towards the Election Commission of it announces the polls schedule before the Oikya Front’s demands are met. He, however, did not spell out details for the programme.

Gano Forum chief Dr Kamal Hossain-led Jatiya Oikya Front is set to open the second round of talks on Wednesday with the ruling Awami League at the PM’s official residence Ganabhaban following a dialogue on Nov 1.

The Election Commission has said that it will announce the schedule of the general election on Thursday (Nov 8). Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda is expected to announce it in an address to the nation.

The Jatiya Oikya Front has urged the Commission to defer the announcement of schedule until its talks with the ruling party ends.
