CEC embarrassed at polls violence

Dhaka, Dec 12 (Just News) : Chief election commissioner KM Nurul Huda has said the commission had been embarrassed by the acts of polls violence that claimed two people on Tuesday.

"Yesterday we were glad to say that no cases of polls violence had been reported. But later on the day, two killings hurt us. It is very embarrassing for us," the CEC said at the EC office on Wednesday.

"The attack on the car of BNP secretary general was also unexpected, and embarrassing, too. We did not expect it. A man's life is more important that all the elections. Some of us think the 300 seats and the elections are more important. But we cannot accept people getting killed in polls violence. We need to find a way out," he further said.

"I would like to urge the political parties and its leaders and activists to act patiently. Please abide by the election code of conduct. Let us show respect to others' basic rights," the CEC added.

Election commissioners Mahbub Talukder, Md Rafiqul Islam, Begum Kabita Khanam, Shahdat Hossain Chowdhury and EC secretary Helaluddin Ahmed were also present when the CEC spoke to the media.
