Dhaka, Dec 30 (Just News): President M Abdul Hamid on Saturday urged social organisations, including regional and professional ones, to work with the government for ensuring regional development and social reforms.
"A joint-effort is very important to do something good . . . work for local development wherever you stay," he said while speaking at a special feast (Ziafat) organised by Greater Mymensingh Samity at Police Staff College (PSC) convention centre in the city.
A work which is quite impossible for a single person to do can asily be done through joint efforts, he said.
President Hamid also urged different organisations and local effluent people to stand by the helpless and underprivileged people and come forward for the welfare of people alongside the government.
Referring to the ongoing development in greater Mymensingh and haor region, the President said, "We do politics of different parties due to the differences of ideology and opinion, but we should unite for development."
President Hamid urged the rich and industrialists, irrespective of their political party affiliation, to come forward for the development of greater Mymensingh.
Noting that the Mymensingh division started its journey due to keenness of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and it would accelerate development here, the President said, "I, being an inhabitant of Mymensingh, express my gratitude to the honourable Prime Minister and her government for this."
President Hamid said the potential of trade and investment in the greater Mymensingh area is very bright now and this samity can play a role of an effective platform to utilise that.
About the recent flashflood in the haor region, Abdul Hamid stressed bringing changes in the lifestyle and livelihood of Haor people and also inventing new species of flood-resilient crops keeping in mind the adverse effects of the climate change.
He also put emphasis on the invention of sustainable technology and proper use of it to ensure local advancement and develop standard of human living.
At the beginning of his speech, the President paid tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The President also inaugurated the Greater Mymensingh Samity 6-storey Building here.
Chief Coordinator for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Affairs in the Prime Minister's Office Md Abul Kalam Azad, senior civil and military officials concerned, were, among others, present on the occasion.
