CHT’s socio-economic dev progress satisfactory

Dhaka, Jan 10 (Just News): Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said the progress of the socio-economic development of Chittagong Hill Tracts area is satisfactory.

"The progress of the socio-economic development including education, health, agriculture, social safety, refugee rehabilitation, power, communication, infrastructure construction, capacity building, sports,cultural practice and promotion of the Chittagong Hill Tracts is satisfactory," said the PM.

The Prime Minister said this while responding to a query placed by treasury bench lawmaker Mamtaj Begum of Manikganj-2 at the Jatiya Sangsad here.

Under the development plan, the government will reach solar power to each household of the region by 2021, excavation of the Kaptai Lake and other big rivers for ensuring normal water supply at the region.

Construction of cold storage at the three Chittagong Hill Tracts districts for preservation of the perishable products, construction of link roads between each union and district, construction of tourism infrastructure for drawing attraction of local and foreign tourists, necessary initiatives for socio-economic development and poverty alleviation, programmes for facing climate change related problems under Green Climate Fund (GCF).

Sheikh Hasina recalled that the historic 'Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Agreement'signed between the national committee on Chittagong Hill Tracts and Chittagong Hill Tracts Janasanghati Samity on December 2 in 1997, adding that the then peace agreement brought peace and stability in the region.
