EC committed to make RCC election fair at any cost: CEC

Dhaka, Dec 7 (Just News): Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda on Thursday they are firmly committed to hold the Rangpur City Corporation election in a free and fair manner.

"The election will be made fair at any cost. There'll be four-tier security arrangement for the election," he said, while talking to journalists after a meeting at the divisional commissioner's hall room in Rangpur city.

The CEC said closed circuit cameras will also be installed in some polling stations in the election slated for December 21.

He said the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) may be used at one polling station if the voters want.

Nurul Huda said steps will be taken against the use of black money in the Rangpur city poll.

Noting that there is no need for deployment of the Armed Forces in the Rangpur City Corporation election as a team of 22-23 security men will guard each polling station.

Election Commission secretary Helaluddin Ahmed, DIG Rangpur Range Khandakar Golam Faroque, Police Super Mizanur Rahman, Returning officer Suvash Chandra Sarker and other high officials of the divisional and district administration and law enforcers were present at the meeting, presided over by Rangpur divisional commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed.

The CEC also held a view exchange meeting with the mayor and councillor candidates of the election at the Zila school auditorium in the afternoon.
