Ariful announces to reject SCC polls results

Sylhet, July 30 (Just News): Ariful Haque Chowdhury, BNP mayoral candidate in the Sylhet City Corporation elections, has announced that he would reject the results of the polls.

Ariful came up with the announcement at a press conference at his main office in Kazi Tula area of Sylhet city this afternoon soon after the voting ended at 4:00pm.

In the conference, Ariful said he would reject the result of the election, whatever it may be, and also brought allegation of vote rigging by mentioning that 2-3 polling centres were forcefully seized.

He also expressed his dissatisfaction regarding the election as no steps were taken against this issue even after handing over a written complaint to the concerned authorities.

Ariful also demanded resignation of the election commissioner over the irregularities.

Meanwhile, BNP is leading in the Sylhet City Corporation elections so far.

Results of two centres at Amborkhana Girls’ High School, which used electronic voting machines (EVMs), were out quickly due to the use of technology, Returning Officer Mohammad Alimuzzaman said.

BNP got 1308 votes and Awami League got 566 votes in these two centres.

Among others, Jammat- e -Islam bagged 200 votes, Socialist Party of Bangladesh got 69 votes, Islami Andolan Bangladesh got 31 votes, BNP rebel candidate got 22 votes and independent candidate got 17 votes.
