SC gives deadline for disposing Khaleda Zia’s appeal

Dhaka, July 31 (Just News): The Appellate Division of Supreme Court on Tuesday extended time for the High Court till 31 October to dispose of an appeal filed by Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust case

The High Court missed the first deadline set by the Appellate Division earlier on May 16 to dispose of Khaleda Zia’ appeal by August 31.

A four-judge bench chaired Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain gave the fresh deadline after hearing Khaleda’s petition to cancel its directive to High Court to dispose of her appeal by August 31.

Later in the day the High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman deferred its schedule hearing on Khaleda Zia’s appeal until Wednesday.

The bench told Khaleda Zia’s lawyers that it would later give them timeframe to complete their arguments.

The bench also extended detained Khaleda’s bail until August 8 in the Zia Orphanage Trust case.

Khaleda Zia’s lawyers prayed for adjournment of the hearing and extension of her bail expired on Tuesday.
