Mainul arrested over his personal crime: Quader

Dhaka, Oct 23 (Just News): On Barrister Mainul Hosein's arrest, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said Mainul was arrested over his personal crime not for his involvement in politics.

Mainul was arrested last night from JSD (Rab) chief ASM Abdur Rab's Uttara residence in a defamation case filed with a Rangpur court.

There is no chance to amend the much-debated Digital Security Act before the next general election, said Quader.

The government will seriously look into the matter that the law is not misused, Quader told journalists while replying to a query at a press briefing at his Secretariat office in Dhaka in the morning.

Amid widespread criticism, President Abdul Hamid signed the Digital Security Bill into a law on October 8.

Editors of the country's leading newspapers on October 15 took to the streets and formed a human chain to press for proper amendments to nine sections of the act for the sake of independent journalism and freedom of expression.

Ruling Awami League will take a final decision over the formation of the election-time government at a joint meeting of its central executive committee, advisory committee and parliamentary board on October 26.

Quader, also the general secretary of Awami League, said one or two more ministers from the main opposition party might be included in the cabinet even if the current cabinet is trimmed down.

The new ministers will be from the members of the parliament, the minister said adding that they will not be technocrats but it is not final yet.
