People got united; victory is certain

Sylhet, Oct 24 (Just News): Jatiya Oikyafront leader and Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain today said that the countrymen have got united and the victory of the new political alliance is sure and certain.

“We are now united and our victory is certain,” Kamal Hossain made the claim while addressing a mammoth rally in Sylhet’s Registrar's Office field in Bandarbazar this afternoon.

According to the constitution, people are the sole owner of the country and the ownership will have to give back to the countrymen through holding a free and fair election, he said.

“We, the countrymen will be deprived of the ownership if the next general election is not held in a free and fair manner,” he said.

Rejecting the ruling quarter’s frequent claims over the country’s development, Kamal said development has been done for some people not for the entire nation.

“It does not call development. We want development of the 16 crore people and thus we have got united,” he said.

Election-oriented newly-floated political alliance Jatiya Oikyafront began their first ever public rally today.

As scheduled, the rally kicked off at 2:00pm with the speech of Sylhet BNP President Abul Kaher Shamim amid an almost packing crowd, our local correspondent reports.

Dr Kamal Hossain was the chief guest at the programme. Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna and JSD President Abdur Rab also spoke at the rally.

Meanwhile, there have been allegations from BNP that many of their supporters and activists were barred or obstructed from converging onto Bandarbazar.

Before their first public rally, top leaders of election-oriented newly-floated political alliance Jatiya Oikyafront offered prayers at the shrines of Hazrat Shah Jalal and Hazrat Shah Paran.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP Standing Committee members Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, and Dr Abdul Moin Khan, JSD President Rab, its General Secretary Abdul Malek Ratan, and Mahmudur Rahman Manna were among others present during the occasion.

They reached Sylhet around 6:00am by air and then went to the shrines to offer prayers. They prayed for the peace and well-being of the nation, Shamsuddin Didar, an official of Khaleda's press wing, told The Daily Star.

Earlier, Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain, who is also a key leader of Jatiya Oikyafront, offered prayers at the shrines last night.
