Dialogues never fail but create opportunities: ASM Rab

Dhaka, Oct 30 (Just News): A 16-member Jatiya Oikya Front delegation led by Dr Kamal Hossain will join the talks with the ruling Awami League on Thursday, said ASM Rab, who leads the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), a member of the newly-formed political coalition.

Speaking to media after Oikya Front steering panel’s meeting on Tuesday when the delegation was finalised, he said, “Dialogues never fail rather create opportunities.”

Last month, Gano Forum chief Kamal Hossain-led Jatiya Oikya Prokriya floated the alliance with the BNP, Rab’s JSD and Mahmudur Rahman Manna’s Nagorik Oikya.

“Representatives from all parties will take part in the talks with the prime minister,” said Rab.

He said they would have “frank discussion” with the PM to ensure a free, fair and inclusive national election. “Besides that, the Jatiya Oikya Front’s seven demands will be discussed.”

Referring to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s invitation ‘to discuss any issue in line with the Constitution’, Rab said that the Constitution is meant for the people.

“So, the prime minister has to discuss any and every issue for the sake of the people and the democracy,” he added.

Responding to query on the High Court’s decision raising BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia’s prison term, the JSD chief said they believe the case against her is ‘out of political vengeance’.

“The people do not believe that a former prime minister embezzled 20 or 30 million takas. We condemn it,” said Rab.
