Oikya Front writes to EC calling to delay polls

Dhaka, Nov 3 (Just New): The Jatiya Oikya Front has written to the Election Commission calling for delaying the announcement of the schedule for the general election.

Gano Forum Training Affairs Secretary Rafiqul Islam submitted the letter to the Election Commission on Saturday.

On Oct 13, Gano Forum chief Dr Kamal Hossain launched the Jatiya Oikya Front with the BNP and two other parties ahead of the national polls.

The coalition has floated seven-point demands to ensure a free, fair and credible election, which includes the formation of a non-partisan polls-time administration and dissolving Parliament before the election.

In his letter addressed to Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda, the alliance’s leader referred to their talks with the prime minister held on Thursday and said that Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has told the media that the talks will continue after Nov 8.

The Jatiya Oikya Front is also interested to have talks with the prime minister again, Kamal Hossain wrote.

“We urge to postpone to the announcement of the schedule for the national polls until the prime minister concludes talks with all political parties,” the letter reads.
