Oikya Front to hold rally in city Tuesday

Dhaka, Nov 5 (Just News): Jatiya Oikya Front has received permission to hold its public rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on Tuesday.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has given us permission to hold the rally, provided we meet certain conditions, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anne, BNP’s publicity affairs secretary said on Monday.

DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia granted the permission during a meeting with Anne and the front's two other leaders, at his office, around 11:30am, Anne disclosed.

Earlier, BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, on behalf of the Oikya Front, announced the program at a press conference at the Naya Paltan central office of BNP on Friday.

The rally aims to highlight the front's seven-point demand ahead of the upcoming 11th national polls.

It will be Jatiya Oikya Front's third rally, as the alliance previously held rallies in Sylhet and Chittagong on October 24 and 27, respectively.

Tuesday's rally is going to be held hours before the Oikya Front leaders' second phase of a small-scale dialogue with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, at her residence called Ganabhaban, at 11am on Wednesday.

Previously on November 1, Jatiya Oikya Front participated in a dialogue with Prime Minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina—the first in a series of dialogues.

They met to resolve the present political crisis and pave a way to ensure the parliamentary election is peaceful.

The alliances agreed to hold a second dialogue after eminent jurist and chief of the newly formed Jatiya Oikya Front, Dr Kamal Hossain, wrote to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina seeking another dialogue. He said that Oikya Front is interested in discussing constitutional and legal affairs relating to the upcoming election, on November 1.

In the letter, Kamal Hossain thanked the prime minister for holding a dialogue with Oikya Front leaders and requested another dialogue be arranged as soon as possible.

The letter was borne by a delegation of Oikya Front leaders to the prime minister's political office in Dhanmondi—and received by her office assistants.

Dr Kamal Hossain led-Oikya Front, comprising: BNP, Gono Forum, Nagorik Oikya, and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Rab), was launched on October 13.
