No age limit for joining public service, pledges Oikya Front

Dhaka, Dec 17 (Just News) : The opposition coalition of Jatiya Oikya Front has pledged to abolish the existing age limit for joining government services, if it wins the 30 December parliamentary elections.

“Except in police and defence, there will be no age limit in joining government services,” the Oikya Front said in its 35-point election manifesto unveiled at a city hotel on Monday.

According to the current rules, jobseekers cannot apply for government jobs once they exceed 30 years.

Also, there will be no quota in the government services except for those who are from underprivileged communities and people with disabilities, Oikya Front leader and Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna said reading out the manifesto.

He mentioned that the Front will constitute a commission to assess the state’s economic capacity to introduce an allowance for the unemployed youths above 30 years of age.

The coalition also pledged that all vacant posts will be filled in within five years.

Training centres will be set up in each district and upazila (sub-district) level for building skilled manpower to addressing unemployment and to cater to the needs of the industries, according to the manifesto.

The Front, if voted to power, will take steps to simplify and soften terms and conditions of disbursement of loans among the youths to create and promote entrepreneurship.

Hiring of foreigners without work permit will be stopped, and skilled manpower will be created to fill in those positions in the local indistries, the manifesto says.
