Balanced dev govt’s ultimate goal, says Hasina

Dhaka, Jan 4 (Just News): Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said the ultimate goal of the government is to ensure the overall balanced development of the country to change the fate of its people.

"Our utmost goal is to ensure overall development of the country and for that the government has planned various development programmes since we have come to power," she said.

Sheikh Hasina this while inaugurating a flood control and drainage system project in Noakhali to remove water-logging through a videoconference from her official residence Ganobhaban.

The Prime Minister said that since assuming power the government is working tirelessly for uplifting the socioeconomic status of the country and change the fate of people.

"The government is making constant efforts for the development of the country and steps are being taken in this regard," she added.

Talking about the flood control and drainage system project in Noakhali, the Prime Minister said the project would improve water drainage system in Noakhali district and control the intrusion of silts and saline water during tidal surge.

"This will contribute to overall economic development of the district through boosting agricultural production and development of environment," she said.

Hasina said this project will help the people of the district get rid of the sufferings of water-logging due to the Noakhali canal.

Under the water-logging mitigation project in Noakhali, about 182 kilometres of Noakhali Canal will be excavated while the dredging of a seven-kilometre waterway of the Bamoni River will be carried out.

Besides, a sluice gate of 19 vents and a sluice gate of two vents will be constructed on the Bamoni River and Mouishmora Khal respectively.

The project also includes the excavation of diversion channels, construction of closer on the Bamoni River, river bank protection at Muchapur, Guchhagram, Char Kachhapia, Char Lengta and Char Elahi of Sandheep Channel and construction of embankment and loop-cut digging.

The project for mitigating water-logging mitigation, flood control and drainage system of Noakhali district will be implemented by 34 Engineering Construction Brigade of Bangladesh Army and Bangladesh Water Development Board at a cost of Tk 325 crore by 2021.

After the inauguration of the projects, the PM through the videoconference talked talked to the officials and beneficiaries of the projects in Noakhali.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Water Resources Minister Anwar Hossain and Army Chief General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq also spoke on the occasion.
