Khaleda Zia’s graft case verdict Feb 8

Dhaka, Jan 25 (Just News)A court here on Thursday fixed February 8 to deliver verdict in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case against BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and 5 others.

Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman of the makeshift court fixed the date after completion of argument hearing, said Khaleda Zia’s defence lawyer Sanaullah Miah.

Meanwhile, the court also fixed January 30, 31 and February 1 for the argument hearing in Zia Charitable Trust graft case.


The ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on July 3, 2008 with Ramna Police Station accusing Khaleda, her eldest son Tarique Rahman, who is now living in the UK after securing bail, and four others for misappropriating over 2.10 crore that came as grants from a foreign bank for orphans.


Four other accused are former BNP lawmaker Salimul Haq Kamal and businessman Sharfuddin Ahmed, former principal secretary to the PM Kamal Uddin Siddique and Mominur Rahman, nephew of late President Ziaur Rahman.
Kamal Uddin Siddique and Mominur Rahman have been absconding.


On August 8, 2011, the commission filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Begum Khaleda Zia, of abuse of power in raising funds for the trust from unknown sources.
