Dhaka, Nov 10 (Just News): Bangladesh got a harsh reality check when they were crushed by hosts and defending champions West Indies by 60 runs in their opening match of the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 in Guyana on Saturday.
Deandra Dottin claimed a tournament record 5-6 as West Indies bowled out Bangladesh for 46 runs in 14.4 overs after posting a below-par 106-8 in 20 overs, sent into bat first.
Pace bowler Jahanara Alam took two wickets in two balls in her second over to put West Indies in some sort of trouble, reducing the side to 14-2 before the hosts recovered through skipper Stefanie Taylor’s 29 off 44 balls and Kycia Knights 32 off 24 balls.
Jahanara claimed a return catch off her own bowling in the last over of the innings to dismiss Kycia and finish with 3-23.
West Indies were reduced to 50-5 at one stage before the late recovery as
Bangladesh’s spin trio Rumana Ahmed (2-16), Khadija Tul Kubra (1-19), Salma Khatun (1-21) also bowled commendably.
Bangladesh were hoping for an upset win after restricting the home side to a gettable score, but received a jolt at the start of their own innings once Taylor and Shakera Selman reduced them to 19-3 inside six overs.
The introduction of Dottin into the attack left them in complete disarray as
Bangladesh were unable to cope with her face and failed to show a minimum technique to deal with her accurate bowling.
Dottin took two wickets in her first over to leave Bangladesh 29-5 before finishing things up quickly.
None of Bangladeshi batswoman could reach double figure before Kubra’s run out ended their innings.
‘We bowled well, but the batting today wasn't good. They bowled well, but we didn't chase properly, we were let down by our batting,’ Bangladesh skipper Salma said after the game.

We need to improve on that in the next few matches. Our bowling partnerships were good, the fielding was good as well, a better batting performance would have helped us win the game.’
Bangladesh will face England in their next match on November 13.
