WB forecasts 6.8pc GDP for current fiscal
Justnews -
Dhaka, Jan 11 (Just News): Bangladesh's economic growth for this fiscal year will be 6.8 percent, World Bank forecast in a report published yesterday.

But in the next fiscal 2017-18, the GDP (gross domestic product) growth will be 6.5 due to weakening remittance and exports, the report said.

“Bangladesh’s growth is expected to ease to a still solid 6.8 percent in FY 2017 (ending on 30 June 2017), from the official estimate of 7.1 percent in the previous fiscal year,” the report said.

The World Bank Group flagship report ‘Global Economic Prospect: Weak Investment in Uncertain Time’ was published yesterday.

“Domestic security challenges compounded weak external demand and a mild pickup in private investment, offsetting an uptick in infrastructure spending and increased public sector wages.”

In the report, the WB warned that weakening remittance and exports may lower economic growth to 6.5 percent in the 2017-18 fiscal.

The growth may suffer further if stabilising measures are not taken for revenue, it said.
