Justnews -
Dhaka, Jan 6 (Just News): Police have sought a seven-day remand for the alleged mastermind of the October 30 attack on Hindus in Brahmanbaria's Nasirnagar.

Haripur Union Parishad Chairman Dewan Atikur Rahman Akhi was taken to be produced before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Saraf Uddin today but the hearing on the remand petition was not held due to a public holiday, said Court Inspector Mahbubur Rahman.

The court is expected to hear the petition as soon as the court opens, our local correspondent reports quoting the court official.

“Police have adequate evidence against the accused regarding his involvement in the communal attack,” he said.

The accused invested money to instigate people and hired vehicles so that people could converge on the scene, the official added.

Akhi was detained from Bhatara in Dhaka yesterday. Later, he was shown arrested in a case filed for vandalising a temple on October 30.

Unruly zealots carried out a synchronised attack on the Hindus in the upazila and vandalised around 100 homes and at least five temples and looted valuables over a Facebook post On October 30. The attackers also beat up over 100 people of the minority community.
