Nat’l Revolution & Solidarity Day observed
Justnews -
Dhaka, Nov 7 (Just News): BNP and its associate bodies observed what it says the ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’ on Tuesday, commemorating the ‘civil-military uprising’ in 1975.

On November 7, 1975, amid political turmoil soldiers and civilians jointly freed then chief of army staff Ziaur Rahman from captivity in Dhaka cantonment, paving the path for the BNP founder to come to power.

Other political parties and different socio-cultural organisations also observed the day from different historical perspectives.

BNP chalked out a 10-day programme to mark the day.

As part of the programmes, the party hoisted party flag at its central office and all other offices of the party and its associate bodies early in the morning.

BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia together with party leaders and activists was scheduled to place wreaths at Zia’s grave in parliament area at 10am on Tuesday, marking the day.

As the government imposed section 144 in the area until 11pm on Wednesday due to the CPA conference, Khaleda Zia and her party men could not go to Zia’s grave.

Speaking at a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged that the government deliberately deprived the party leaders and activists of visiting its founder’s grave on the occasion of ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’ on the pretext of the ongoing CPA conference.

He said their party leaders and activists, led by its chairperson Khaleda Zia, paid homage to Zia every year on November 7 in the past. “But, we’ve been deprived of it this time. Imposing section 144 in the name of the CPA conference, the government deprived us of going there to pay tribute to him (Zia).”

BNP’s all the units and associate bodies also observed the day across the country with various programmes, including discussion and free medical camp.

Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (Dab), the pro-BNP physicians’ body, arranged a free medical camp from 9pm to 4pm at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, marking the day.
