RU students issue ultimatum to rescue abducted fellow

Dhaka, Nov 18 (Just News): Students of Rajshahi University today gave a two-hour ultimatum to the university authorities to rescue a female student, who was kidnapped from the campus yesterday.

The students issued the ultimatum around 12:30pm from a human chain formed in front of the Central Library of the university.

The students threatened to go for tougher agitation if the authorities fail to rescue their abducted fellow classmate by 2:30 pm today.

Earlier in the day, almost 300 female students organised a peaceful rally that paraded the entire campus. Various students’ political groups like Bangladesh Chhatra League and Chhatra Union also joined them.

The fourth-year Bangla student was abducted by her former husband, Shohel Rana, of Naogaon from the university campus around 8:30am yesterday.

The abductor forced her into a microbus in front of Taposhi Rabeya Hall when she went out of her dormitory to appear in the final examination around 9:00am, said witnesses.

According to the family of the student, she got married to Shohel in December last year, but they got divorced two months back.

More than 300 students started a demonstration and staged a sit-in in front of the vice chancellor's residence Friday afternoon.

The student's father filed an abduction case against Shohel, his father, and four of his family members, Officer-in-Charge of Motihar Police Station Mehedi Hasan. Quoting police, the proctor said Shohel’s father was arrested in Naogaon.
