Cops sue 800 anti-quota demonstrators

Dhaka, Mar 16 (Just News): Police today sued about 800 anti-quota demonstrators over charges of vandalizing government vehicle, engaging with police, and creating public suffering by blocking roads.

Badrul Islam, a sub-inspector at Shahbagh Police Station, told our Dhaka University correspondent this afternoon that he filed the case on above-mentioned grounds.

Meanwhile, the students are expected to hold a press conference in front of Central Library of Dhaka University this evening about their next course of the movement.

Police on Wednesday foiled a march of anti-quota campaigners in the capital by charging batons and firing teargas shells, leaving at least 15 of the activists injured.

The demonstrators want a major reform in the existing quota system in government jobs. They want it to be brought down to 10 percent from what it is 56 percent now.

They have been demonstrating on a five-point charter for some time now.
