Student killed in clash between protesters and police, AL activists

A student was killed today in Savar during a clash between quota protesters on one side and police and activists of Awami League and its associate bodies on the other.

The victim was identified as Shaikh Ashabul Yamin, a student of Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) in Mirpur, his father Md Mohiuddin said.

The incident took place at the Savar Bazar bus stand area around noon.

Yusuf Ali, duty manager of Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar, said that there were bullet marks on the body and that the student was brought to the hospital dead.

He added that five other injured people were admitted to the hospital.

Earlier, the quota reform protesters blocked the Pakiza bus stand on the Dhaka-Aricha highway around 12:30pm and proceeded towards the Pakiza area while leaders and activists of the AL, its associate bodies, police, and BGB members took position there.

As the quota reform protesters moved forward, AL members, their associate bodies, police, and BGB members chased them away.

The protesters set fire to the highway, and the police later fired tear gas shells and opened fire on the protesters.

Clashes are still ongoing at the Savar Bazar bus stand as of the filing of this report at 3:30pm.
