Hunger strike till death, say non-MPO teachers

Dhaka, Dec 29 (Just News): The non-MPO teachers and employees have announced to go for a hunger strike unto death from Sunday to meet their demand for enlistment under the Monthly Pay Order.

“We will go for the hunger strike unto death from Sunday morning and it will continue until our demand is met,” Binoy Bhushan Roy, general secretary of the Non-MPO Educational Institutions’ Teachers and Employees Federation, made the announcement in front of the National Press Club this evening.

A good number of teachers and employees of different non-MPO educational institutions from across the country have been staging demonstration in front of the National Press Club since the last Tuesday to realise their demand.

All teachers and employees of the government registered non-MPO schools, colleges, madrasas and technical educational institutions will observe the hunger strike, Golam Mahmudunnabi Dollar, president of the federation told this to a daily.

About 75,000 to 80,000 teachers are currently employed in the government-recognised 5,242 schools all over Bangladesh, who are not under a pay scheme. They do not receive any payment for service.
