Nur demands fresh Ducsu election

A day after the meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Ducsu VP-elect Nurul Haq Nur on Sunday evening demanded reelection to all the posts of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union and its hall unions, bringing allegations of vote fraud and irregularities.

He also demanded resignation of the incumbent officials involved in the Ducsu elections and arranging the reelection under the supervision of new officials.

Nur came up with the demands newly at a press conference held at the Madhur Canteen on the campus around 6pm.

He also announced that they will boycott all academic activities of the university and hold a protest rally at the foot of Raju Memorial Sculpture at 11am on Monday.

"I won’t take charge as the VP if students don’t want. The Prime Minister is the head of the government. That's why I went to Ganobhaban as she invited us," said the Ducsu VP-elect.

Meanwhile, activists of Pragatisheel Chhatra Jote, an alliance of left-leaning student organisations, also demanded Ducsu reelection.

At a separate press conference at the same venue, Liton Nandi, general secretary of Chhatra Union who contested the election for Ducsu VP post, said, "It has been proved to all that the elections were not free and fair. Students couldn’t cast their votes. So, we’re demanding reelection. We hope that the university authorities will announce a fresh schedule as soon as possible."
