Quota activists, Ducsu VP demand resignation of BSMRSTU VC

Leaders and activists of Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council, a platform that spearheads quota reformation movement, demanded the resignation of the vice-chancellor (VC) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU).

They came out with this demand yesterday at a protest rally by the base of Raju memorial of Dhaka University (DU) condemning attacks on BSMRSTU students.

They also declared the VC as persona non grata.

At least 50 students of BSMRSTU in Gopalgonj were injured as outsiders swooped on them on the same day after they continued demonstration seeking the removal of its VC, ignoring an order to close down the university, and vacate residential halls.

Vice President of Ducsu Nurul Haque Nur in his speech said a culvert bridge was broken so that students of BSMRSTU cannot enter into the campus, and then the perpetrators also carried out an attack on the students.

Ducsu VP urged Gopalgonj administration to take steps against the VC, as well as those in his administration who had tarnished the image of the birthplace of Bangabandhu adding that: "Such a kind of VC should not stay in the holy soil of Gopalgonj."

Platform Convener Hasan Al Mamun said: “We will go to Gopalgonj expressing solidarity with protesting students’ demand of Khandokar Nasir Uddin's resignation, and also announce him ‘unwanted’ there.
