DU students besiege VC office

Dhaka, Jan 23 (Just News): Dhaka University (DU) students today confined its Vice Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman besieging his office demanding punishment of Chhatra League activists who allegedly harassed some of the female students.

They took position there around 12:00pm after forming a human chain in front of Aparajeyo Bangla and paraded the entire campus in the morning.

The protesters also have been demanding withdrawal of a case filed against unknown DU students and resignation of the DU proctor who, according to them, took steps against the students instead of taking action against the Chhatra League activists.

On Monday, around 400 activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student front of the ruling Awami League, foiled a demonstration of the students who were staging a sit-in in front of the vice chancellor's office, demanding withdrawal of DU affiliation with seven colleges in the capital.

The BCL activists allegedly harassed some of the female students and took one of the coordinators of the protest inside the VC office and assaulted him.
