Mahtab Uddin Ahmed steps down as Robi CEO

Following a very successful stint as Robi’s managing director and CEO for five illustrious years, Mahtab Uddin Ahmed has decided not to renew his contract.

His term with Robi will officially come to an end on October 31 this year, but he has decided to go on leave with immediate effect.

“With a heavy heart, I would like to share with you that I have decided not to renew my contract with Axiata which is due to expire on October 31, 2021, till which time I will be on official leave as I am in Australia at present. Every great journey comes to end; and my glorious journey with Robi has come to an end too!” Ahmed wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday.

“While I enjoyed working and being with you all in Bangladesh, I have also been away from my family for the last six years. Now I would like to give them a turn to spend more time with me while I figure out my next course of action!” he added in the post.

Robi’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO), M Riyaaz Rasheed, in addition to his current role as CFO, will serve as the acting CEO with immediate effect, reads a press release.

Chairman of Robi Board of Directors Thayaparan Sangarapillai said: “On behalf of the Robi Board of Directors, I would like to thank Mahtab for establishing Robi firmly as the leading digital service provider of the country.”

Ahmed thanked Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, Posts and Telecommunications Division, ICT Division, Bangladesh Security Exchange Commission, Dhaka Stock Exchange, Chittagong Stock Exchange, Robi’s employees and the management team, the business partners, the media fraternity, and the customers for extending their kind cooperation towards him throughout his leadership in Robi.

As Robi’s first home-grown CEO, Ahmed took the company to the dizzying height of success that includes achieving leadership position in 4G, a number of path-breaking innovative digital initiatives, the biggest ever IPO, etc, the press release adds.

He leaves behind Robi on a strong foundation to transform itself into the digital champion of the industry through leadership in digital innovation, the press release further reads.
