BB chief worried over remittance slide

Dhaka, Feb 14 (Just News): Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir has voiced concern over the remittance that declined significantly since last year and continued into 2017.

“In the last seven months, remittance growth declined by 16 percent,” Governor Fazle Kabir said while talking to reporters today at a training session.

Slow growth of remittance is a matter of concern to achieve the future target of Bangladesh’s eight percent growth. He said, experts are looking into the situation.

“A team of the central bank has been studying on the issue and will be sent soon to the Middle East countries to know the reason of the slow growth,” he said.

In January, Remittance continued its downward trajectory into the new year, declining 12.27 percent year-on-year to about $1 billion. During the latter half of last year, remittance slumped 17.63 percent to $6.17 billion.
