People suffer trying to access app till last day of sale

A huge number of people on Sunday faced immense suffering trying to buy advance train tickets online on the final day of the five consecutive days of sale ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Mismanagement in the sale of advance tickets started since Wednesday, the very first day of advance ticket sale online.

On Sunday, many users complained that they suffered trying to obtain tickets online since 9:00am till the end of day as they failed to enter the railway’s newly launched mobile app ‘Rail Sheba’.

This year, the railway sold 50 per cent of the advance tickets through the app Rail Sheba, website E Sheba and mobile SMS services. On the first day of sale railways minister Nurul Islam Sujan told journalists that they would open all unsold online tickets to be sold at the counters from today.

Bangladesh Railway director (traffic) Md Mahbubur Rahman told New Age that the number of unsold advance train tickets online was ‘very few’.

‘These tickets will go to the counters automatically five days after the sale begins,’ he said. On Sunday, between 9:00am and 4:00pm, people thronged the ticket counters at Kamalapur, Tejgaon, Banani and Airport railway stations and Phulbaria in the capital to buy advance tickets for journeys on June 4.

Some of them complained of lack of tickets for air-conditioned cars and cabins, slow registration process at the counters and unwillingness of the security and railway staffs to maintain long queues.

This year, for the first time, railway sold advance tickets of 33 intercity trains from five different spots — Kamalapur, Airport, Tejgaon and Banani and Phulbaria stations. Each day railway sold 25,571 tickets.
