A Supreme Court (SC) lawyer has filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking stay on the government’s decision of hiking the gas price.
Advocate Eunus Ali Akond submitted the petition today also challenging the government notification on the hike of gas prices.
In the petition, he prayed to the HC to issue a rule asking the authorities concerned of the government to explain why decision of increasing gas price should not be declared illegal.
The government notice is illegal as Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (Berc) did not hold any public hearing before the gas tariff hike, the SC lawyer said in the petition.
In the petition, he also said the government increases the gas price almost every year which is unreasonable.
Berc chairman and secretaries to the Berc and Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources have been made respondents to the required rule.
The HC is yet to fix any date for hearing the petition.
