Coronavirus: Bankers to get special incentive

Every official and employee of scheduled banks in the country will get special incentive for their duties during general holidays announced by the government to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection.

The officers and employees, who are present in their workplaces and carrying out their duties during the holidays, will be eligible for the special incentive, according to a notice issued by the Bangladesh Bank on Monday.

They will be entitled to the incentive allowance, which is equal to their basic salaries, for working for a minimum of 10 days in the holidays, according to the notice.

In the case of temporary or contractual officers and employees, the notice said, they will get 65% of their basic salaries, ranging the amount between Tk30,000 and Tk100,000.

The days will be counted from the first day of the general holidays, it added.

On March 26, the government first introduced a 10-day shutdown till April 4, which was later extended in phases till April 25, in order to contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

As of Monday, Bangladesh has so far recorded 39 deaths and 803 cases from Covid-19, a pandemic announced by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The fast spreading coronavirus, which was first reported in China's Wuhan, has claimed 114,980 lives and infected 1,861,672 people across the world till 4pm on Monday, according to worldometer.

As many as 431,536 people have recovered from Covid-19, a disease caused by a new strain of coronavirus, which has spread to 210 countries and territories across the planet.
